Join us at noon today at Central Park, 9151 NW 2nd St, Jacaranda FL 33324. This Freedom Walk is completely free. The parking is free and it’s free to participate. Just bring yourself, come hydrated with a comfy pair of shoes and meet us by marker #3.

Jacaranda? Don’t you mean Plantation, Florida? No you read that right, we are honoring the work that a local Black man did to change the name of Plantation, FL to Jacaranda, FL. After the wake of the ruthless killing of George Floyd by the police five years ago, a local Broward county resident started a petition on change.org to change the name of Plantation, Florida to Jacaranda, Florida. That petition garnered over 7,500 signatures within the first week of going live.

The connection between the naming of the city of Plantation to the racist history of slave plantations cannot be denied.
